How long did you wait for Certification reply?

Postby wit » Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:23 pm

I will not hide it: I was not a big fan of the certification process from the start. In my opinion Samsung should have allowed installation of un-certified apps for those bada users who choose to allow it explicitly. There was a big debate about it a few month ago.
This is something we cannot change, though. It is up to Samsung to allow it or not and to face the corresponding strategic consequences (less quantity, but more quality?).

At the end of the day the developers themselves have to bear the risk of certification, though. An objective, transparent, supportive and reliable certification process can be a pleasure to work with. Clear standards and rules, that basically guarantee certification in a timely manner, can be a great thing actually! This is something where Samsung could really differentiate itself from Apple!

On the other hand, if you are forced to wait weeks for any response then the whole thing can become a torture. You would start wondering whether you shall continue allocating your resources for bada or not.

Let's try to shed some light on the certification process and get a bigger/clearer picture of it as it is right now! I invite those of you who already have had the pleasure of submitting an app to the store to

  • Share your experiences with us and
  • Vote on how many working days you had to wait until the first response (approval or denial)

I will keep this poll up for about 4-5 months :pirate-cool:

10+ for us. Still no reply.
We tried to contact the certification team using a static email address that wit provided in one of his posts. We have also submitted a question using the interface at the seller's office.
The app is still there "hanging"...

You may include the type of the application to compare between free/paid...app/game ... partner/non

I think that certification can be in developer/user side if it can limit the number of buggy applications on the market [if they really spend good time to test the app]

Well our app is a free one (for now) from the Music category. It is quiet simple, but useful and easy to test. It works perfectly and doesn't break any rules. We did pass the check points one by one. We are not partners.

Another week starts and we still did not hear anything from Samsung. No replies to any inquiries no progress in the approval status. 17th day now (11th working day). We are slowly starting to regret having spent resources on bada in the first place. If we don't get a reply this week, we will move on to other projects on iPhone and Android.

Wit and Nour, thank you for your support and thumbs up for the great community and blog!

@reshep

Come on , don't gave up now. I had serious difficulties registering in the app store. I was disappointed but never gave up. Maybe they have priority for the paid apps, or they got too many submission recently.

Anyway, Thanks for your nice words and you are very welcome :)

Reshep, I think it may be due to the volume of apps being reviewed right now. And/Or maybe half of the certification team is on summer vacations or something :-P

Thank you guys for the encouraging words. Meanwhile we have received an answer from Samsung for the Q&A inquiry:

Dear Reshep,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Apps. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

Regarding your inquiry, as far as you know application approval procedure consists of certain stages. After reviewing our records, we can inform you that the application [AppName] with Content ID 0000000xxxxx is currently [Under Content Review] starting from June 28th. Thus, we can assure you that the registration process goes fine.

The [Under Content Review] stage usually takes 7 days, however this may vary according to the workflow, which has been rather of high volume lately. Thus, this period of 7 days is prolonged. So we are kindly asking you to be patient while testing of the application is ongoing.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us or you also may want to check out our answers to Frequently Asked Questions, which can be found at the [Support] menu of Samsung Apps.

Thank you for using our services. Your satisfaction is very important for us.

Today the app is for the 14th working day "Under Content Review". So the 7 days has not been simply "prolonged", but doubled... We remain optimistic, though - at least we have received a friendly answer.

On the Dev Days Samsung said: "7 days, but it usually takes 4-5 days". Our example shows a dramatic miscalculation of capacities, IMHO. Is there anybody else out there waiting for certification right now for more than 7 days?

@reshep: Hmm, it will be a whole month soon, right? Maybe it's July and everyone's on vacations. However, it would surprise me a lot if they just left the certification guys go on vacation in such a key moment for the whole bada project...

It has been only 6 working days since I registered our application but the thing is that it's still stuck in the Registration section. It shows that the registration is in progress. This obviously means that the Approval (certification) process itself has not even started yet. I'm quite concerned about this.

Oh, if I remember it right, the registration took like one working day for the apps I know of. There must be really a serious bottle neck somewhere at the certification's department at Samsung's HQs right now. Maybe everybody is indeed on vacations? :-P

Keep pushing guys and stay patient - we are with you! :-)
