I think the petition you have created is a really good step. I have already signed.

Maybe in the future we should make a new one for allowing VoIP applications. Even Apple finally let these applications >.<

@bruxbros: any chance to make your site multi-lingual (english?)...

Wow! this ad serving thing I don't think will serve any benefit on the grounds

    1. Pulling down extra (but useless) data from the internet to slow down your application
    2. Ads serving content is going to distract away from the real functionality of an application
    3. Use a donate button to paypal prior to downloading or make it accessible outside of the application, just write in there somewhere visible, go to http://your_url/donate instead
    4. Serving ads is just a waste of time!
    5. Personally, if I ever see an app (even if its useful) and there's adverts on it... I will wipe it off my handset and look for an alternative, nuff said.
    6. Quite frankly, application development should be a number one priority, in terms of ease of development, SDK, packaging it and putting it up, and to be able to make money, that's what matters most!
    7. If the application is of a sociable nature, i.e. interacts with google, facebook, twitter, etc, but isn't that what web browsers are there for!!!??
    8. If you want to publish a free application, then put it down as open source and host it somewhere (perhaps badaforge?) - the only problem with that... is application ID and to be able to run it any time you like

"4- Link to harmful Site or Other application market [no ads]"

As I said before, I refuse to think marketing department fail for Samsung, they must have something serious in mind, maybe can't be disclosed right now. There must be a solid reason for that.

Tom, thank you for your honest opinion.

Like I said earlier: I know half a dozen good mobile developers that make a living with ads-supported apps. Some of those apps are very popular and go into hundreds of thousands of downloads.

It is up to the user to like it or not. If you don't like it, you un-install the app. No problem.
But hundreds of thousands seem to like the app's features more, so they keep the app.

In my opinion such apps should always provide a non-free version without ads. Only if you don't want to pay for the app, you can have a free version with ads. It's as honest and simple as it can get.

There are many other types of apps that require online connection, not only social apps. For instance, I know of a development of an Android MMORPG via a native app. Why not support the development's expenses with ads? If you started to sell such an app, you'd never get momentum. So you need to give it away for free.

Thats what got me into thinking too.
How to make a living from making Apps.

Lets say you sell your app for 1currency, which is 70cents for you.
If you sell now a 1000 Apps a Month (which is kind a good I would guess) you get 700 Euros out.

Now, same thing with ads. How much would it take, to make the same with ads?
I don't think you could get that easy 70cent from each of your users.

Ofcourse Samsungs deciscion takes us away the opportunity to offer 2 versions. one with and one without ads.

codenode, that depends on many factors including size/positioning of the banner, app's type, intensity of use, etc. A particular app from Android that I know of makes about 700€/month with currently 35,000-40,000 active installs. 40k downloads is not that difficult to achieve with a quality/innovative app.

I was disappointed with the no gambling rule, like many people I enjoy a little flutter and for the vast majority of us it's no problem. I had ideas for betfair and betdaq that were blown out the water by that rule.

Although I agree with Tom about adverts being annoying, I'd personally choose to pay a small fee in preference, I don't see why they should be banned. Horses for courses.
