Java support...?

Postby sparky » Thu Mar 04, 2010 5:43 pm

I heard somewhere back in December that Bada would support Java...?

A bada java SDK + JVM is my wish for 2010 XMas! It's so much easier to programm than c! I am having hard time with pointers and low-level memory management. Would be nice to have it automated the java way!

Plus, there are lots of Java developers and ready java apps (from Android) waiting for porting => more apps for bada.

I agree sparky, especially once I saw the spec of the Samsung Wave. Why C++, why two phase construction, it's not that long ago this spec would have been considered a powerful computer never mind a phone.

I really hope Samsung will sponsor a project like Vala or haXe so we can at least have a syntax more like C#.

Java is for weaklings hehehe ;-)

I think JavaVM means additional resources spending that we should be able to live without. Although the whole Android ports issue may be tempting, a usual Android app depends too heavily on the Android API. So porting an app to Bada will not necessarily mean less work than porting it directly to C++. Unless, of course, if you are a Java only developer :-P

Well, with the power that Wave has, running a JVM wouldn't be a problem, imho. Look at Android's dalvik JVM: lean, fast and relatively easy on resources.

If they ever considered to put another interface over the present API, I'd rather love to see some Python. Now THAT would be really ground-breaking and innovative. There would be tons of developers. Python is my favorite programming language. :-)

Python is a scripting language, not programming language :P Nevertheless, that would be nice too.
Anything, but damn pointers!! :)

Python is my favourite too, the first day bada.com went live I e-mailed the link on the contact page and said something like "Please, please give developers something exciting and new that enables them to be really productive, like a compilable Python - anything but C/C++". Of course I never got a reply.

Nokia are currently doing this for Symbian and MeeGo, check out Pyside.
It already exists for Symbian S60, check out PyS60

Genie would be a very good option it uses the Vala compiler to compile Python(ish) syntax to C: http://live.gnome.org/Genie
